Okay, I have to talk about Stone Haven, because a Stone Haven wedding is SO dreamy. Perched on a bluff high above the Tennessee River in Section, Alabama, it feels like you hopped a flight to Italy – curved stone archways, walls of glass, and river views that look straight out of Lake Como. No passport required!!

If you’re planning an Alabama wedding and want something romantic, editorial, and a little bit European, here’s everything you need to know.

The Story Behind Stone Haven

Stone Haven was created by a husband-and-wife team, Taylor and Danielle, who dreamed it up after planning their own wedding. Between time spent in Italy and a love for old European architecture, they built a space that feels timeless – think Mediterranean-inspired stonework, textured materials, and arches everywhere you look. Overall, it’s elegant without feeling stuffy, which is exactly what I love in a venue.

The Spaces

The Atrium Conservatory

A 40×50 glass conservatory sitting right on the bluff. It works beautifully for a ceremony, or it can be flipped into a reception space. And because it’s all glass, the mood shifts all day long – soft and airy in the afternoon, glowy and golden as the sun goes down. Of course, as a photographer, I’m obsessed with light like this.

The Grand Hall

A 40×100 climate-controlled reception hall right next to the conservatory, with glass arch walls looking out over the river. Also – romantic views AND air conditioning in an Alabama summer? Yes please.

The Ceremony Patio

A European-style patio overlooking the bluff that holds up to 300 guests. So picture saying your vows with the river stretching out behind you… I mean, come on.

The Rock House

A 5,000-square-foot stone estate where the bride and her crew can get ready (it sleeps 11!). Plus, there’s also a space for the groom and his people, so everyone has room to breathe, hang out, and soak in the morning.

The Honeymoon Tiny Home

A little Italian-inspired cottage on the bluff, saved just for the two of you after the reception. Such a sweet way to end the night.

Photo Tips for a Stone Haven Wedding

  1. Plan around golden hour. After all, the views over the river at sunset are unreal. That’s why I recommend building in 20-30 minutes for portraits while the light is warm and low.
  2. Use the conservatory for portraits. All that glass means soft, even light that’s flattering on everyone – and it’s a lifesaver if the weather doesn’t cooperate.
  3. Leave room for the in-between moments. Some of my favorite images happen on the walk between spaces, under the archways, or with your people out on the patio. So give yourselves a little breathing room in the timeline!
  4. Don’t skip the getting-ready photos. In fact, the Rock House has so much character and stone texture – it makes for gorgeous, editorial getting-ready images.

When to Get Married at Stone Haven

Spring (March-May) and fall (September-November) are the sweet spots for comfortable temps and beautiful color. On the other hand, summer in North Alabama can get hot and humid, but with the climate-controlled Grand Hall and glass conservatory, you’ve got great options to keep everyone cool.

Getting There

Stone Haven is in Section, in northeast Alabama. It’s about an hour from Chattanooga, TN, and an easy drive from Huntsville – so out-of-town guests can fly into either city. Plus, Section is a small town, so I always recommend booking guest accommodations early!
