Charleston is basically one big backdrop, and I’m obsessed. If your venue doesn’t have the look you’re dreaming of, or you just want a few iconic Charleston shots, here are my favorite places for wedding photos in Charleston.

1. Rainbow Row

The pastel houses on East Bay Street are THE Charleston photo. For the best results, go early in the morning for soft light and fewer people.

2. The Battery and White Point Garden

Oak trees, sea breezes, and views over Charleston Harbor. Golden hour here is unreal.

3. Waterfront Park

Home of the famous Pineapple Fountain and long shady walkways along the harbor. Super fun for a playful, candid vibe.

4. The French Quarter

Cobblestone streets, gas lanterns, iron gates, and ivy-covered walls. Perfect for moody, editorial portraits.

5. Chalmers Street

One of the few cobblestone streets left in the city. It’s narrow and romantic, and it photographs beautifully in black and white.

6. Hampton Park

Gardens, a gazebo, and big open lawns, with a more relaxed and local feel than downtown.

7. Angel Oak

This giant live oak on Johns Island is hundreds of years old and absolutely massive. Because it’s so popular, check the park’s hours and rules before you plan on it.

8. Folly Beach

For couples who want sand, waves, and wind in their hair. Sunset here is SO dreamy.

9. Middleton Place and Magnolia Plantation

If your venue is one of these, you’ve got gardens, oaks, and water views built right in.

Tips for Wedding Photos in Charleston

  1. Plan around the light. Downtown streets can get harsh midday, so save portraits for early morning or golden hour.
  2. Build in travel time. Charleston traffic and parking are real!
  3. Check the rules. Charleston has rules for professional photography on public property, and they’ve been updated recently. I always check current permit requirements before a session, so that’s one less thing on your plate.
  4. Wear comfy shoes for walking. Cobblestones and heels are not friends lol.
